A virtual learning offer for schools by the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology

Bolzano – School field trips to see Ötzi are not possible for now. For this reason, the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology has put together a digital offer which lets you visit the Iceman as a part of remote learning. A brief video tour of the museum followed by a live chat with museum experts makes the visit perfect for history classes. The virtual tour is available now and can be booked in German, Italian, or English.

For countless local and international schools, a visit to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology and the Iceman is a formative experience that students will never forget. The main highlights of the museum visit are the mummy and his original belongings which give students a striking picture of neolithic knowledge and crafting.

However, an important part of the learning process that helps students retain this knowledge is not only to see these objects, but also to discuss them with museum mediators in relation to their own life experiences. That is why the museum’s didactic team has put together the practical educational package, “Get in touch with Ötzi”. It includes a tour for primary and secondary schools tailored to the students’ age as well as a video chat where trained personnel show museum materials and technology. During this live chat students will be able to ask questions about the Iceman and the Neolithic.

Teachers can incorporate the educational package in the classroom as well as in remote learning. For primary and secondary schools, the offer is available in German and Italian. It can be booked in English for secondary schools.
